The Ashanti regional chapter of the Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG) has issued a 30-day ultimatum to the government to migrate its members onto the Public Universities Salary Structure (PUSS) or face a strike.
According to the teachers, the Ministry of Education and the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE), have failed to migrate them after the conversion of eight polytechnics into universities over two years ago.
Addressing a news conference in Kumasi, the local Chairman of TUTAG, Mr Andrews Danquah (Ing.), indicated that TUTAG members have gone through the requisite document auditing and verification processes but to no avail.
He said they are running out of patience and want the government to resolve the matter before the end of June 2019.
Mr Danquah said they wish to bring to the notice of the public “the unfairness and injustice being meted out to us by the government through the Ministry of Education and its agencies responsible for the migration”.
“Despite our being labelled as universities … all workers of TUs do not enjoy the deserved remuneration and respect that goes with it,” Mr Danquah added.
