Quantity of Indian hemp destroyed

Large quantities of Indian hemp being court exhibits was destroyed by the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command in conjunction with the Regional Office of the Attorney-General.

Superintendent Alexander A. Mensah, Regional Crime Officer said the measure was to ease the congestion at police crime stores with the consent of the Regional Chief State Attorney.

Some of the exhibits had been at the stores since 1996.

The Crime Officer said the decongestion exercise would be extended to the other 12 district police stations in the region.

The exhibits included 1,074,000.0 grammes of the stuff that was cleverly compressed, packaged and intercepted by the Wenchi police last year on the Seikwa-Wenchi road.

Five policemen including Detective Police Inspector Francis Hagan were implicated in that interception and are on interdiction pending further investigations.

Cosmos Kwabena Danso, driver of the vehicle is on bail. Two other persons on the vehicle escaped arrest.

The exercise was conducted in the presence of Mr Cab Bayuo, the Regional Chief State Attorney, a police team led by Mr Mensah and newsmen.
