Queen appeals to chiefs in Akuapem to take interest in education

Koforidua, Jan 7, GNA - Nana Oye Mansa Yeboah, Dompiahene of Akuapem and the Chairman of the Akuapem Community Foundation (ACF), on Friday appealed to chiefs in the Akuapem area to take interest in the improvement of standards of education in the area.

She said the standard of education in the area was falling and needed the concerted efforts of all in finding prudent ways of addressing the situation.

According to her the role and contribution of chiefs was imperative an= d stressed the need for the chiefs to at least visit the schools in their areas to find out about their performance. Speaking at a meeting with the chiefs in Koforidua, Nana Oye Mansa Yeboah said ACF had so far distributed about 2,000 copies of Mathematics, Science and English Dictionaries to children in schools that had been performing poorly at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). She appealed to the chiefs to monitor those children who had benefited from the Foundation to ensure that they performed better at the BECE to be able to continue with their education.

Nana Oye Mansa Yeboah, who is also the Dompiahene of Akuapem, said the BECE results over the years from many schools in Akuapem were nothing to write home about. She said since the Foundation started its programme, school results and that of the BECE had improved greatly citing school children in Akuapem South who had performed impressively. Nana Oye Mansa Yeboah said the spirit of interest on the part of the chiefs must be rekindled so that together zero percent scores at the BECE would be eliminated entirely from all the schools. The Akuapem Community Foundation was established by eminent citizens o= f Akuapem to find ways of improving education standards in the area as a way of giving back to the Akuapem Community what they had achieved in life.
