Mampong-Akuapem (E/R), Sept. 28, GNA - The Queen mother of Mampong-Akuapem, Nana Akua Peibea I, has called on pregnant women in the area to use treated mosquito nets to avoid getting infested with malaria.
She explained that malaria could cause a lot of preventable diseases and even death to pregnant women and their babies. Nana Peibea gave the advice after a four-hour clean-up exercise organized by the chiefs and people of Mampong-Akuapem to usher in the celebration of this year's Ohum festival.
Nana Peibea, Nana Akoamoah Tete, Ankobeahene, Nana Kofi Asamoah, Guantuahene, the two Assemblymen at Mampong-Akuapem and executives of the Akuapem-Mampong Youth Association led the clean-up exercise. The group cleaned parts of the town including the market, the main bus station, the Coronation Park and the drains and filled the potholes on the road.
Nana Peibea reminded the people that most sicknesses, which were often caused by poor environment, reduced their productivity and called on them to call the attention of their neighbours, who dropped litters to pick them. The secretary of the Mampong-Akuapem Youth Association, Ms Lucy Ansah said, to support the maintenance of clean environment for the town, the association had been organizing a monthly clean-up exercise in the town.
She said the association was planning to establish a centre for skill training for the youth of the area and also seeking resources for the establishment of an information technology centre to expose the youth to the use of computer and the Internet.
