Queenmother commends chief for forging peace and unity

Krobo (B/A), Sept. 14, GNA - Nana Amobea Dufie, Queen mother of Krobo in Techiman, has commended the Chief of the area, Nana Oyeadeayi Asah Akompanin, for his efforts at promoting unity, peace and understanding amongst the people.

The chief, who is the Kyidomhene of the Techiman Traditional Area, has also been encouraging parents to invest in the education of their children.

Addressing the people at a forum during the celebration of the area's annual Munufie Yam festival, the queen mother asked them to live in harmony and to be circumspect in partisan politicking to enhance the development of the community.

Nana Amobea Dufie announced her plans to form abstinence clubs in the area and in schools to help the youth to avoid premarital and illicit sex relationships.

She advised the people to keep their surroundings clean to free themselves from contracting communicable diseases. Nana Kofi Adum, Benkumhene and Anikokoasihene, called for the reinforcement of public health messages and community-based interventions to support mutual respect between males and females, so they would share responsibility for sexual and reproductive health in the country.

He stated that HIV/AIDS among children was not only apparent among orphaned children but also those with living parents, explaining that, some children, especially those from marginalized households could be at risk of being trafficked to some neighbouring nations and sexually exploited, thereby increasing their risk for HIV infection.

The chief cautioned the youth against smoking of Indian hemp and alcoholism and called for support in establishing a scholarship scheme for promising but needy students from both Anikokoasi and Benkum. Nana Adum appealed to the people to register with the Municipal Mutual Health Insurance Scheme to ensure their security, when they fall ill.

Nana Aben Takyiwaa, Benkumhene of Krobo appealed to members of Anikokoasi and Benkum family to pool resources and construct a palace for the family.

Mr Augustine Appau, a member of the family and president of Roman Catholic Church at Krobo, called on the family members, who were not Christians to register with any church of their choice to allow God to take control of their lives.

He advised parents to closely monitor the activities of their children to steer them away from joining bad peer groups. Nana Asibe Boateng, Gyasehene of Mprim, near Mampong in Ashanti and a tutor of Techiman Secondary School advvised the youth against copying foreign cultures.

He called on the employed youth and farmers in the area to take advantage of the President's Special Initiative (PSI) on oil palm and go into it to boost their economic activities to improve their living conditions.
