Kodie (Ash), June 17, GNA - Dr Kwaku Agemang-Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minister, has pledged the resolve of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to support Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in their development efforts.
This, he said, would enable them to provide the needed infrastructure to improve on the living conditions of the people.
Dr Agyemang-Mensah was addressing heads of department, Assembly members and Chiefs of the Afigya-Kwabre at Kodie during his one-day working visit to the district.
The visit enabled the Regional Minister to introduce himself to the people and to inspect the Assembly's on-going projects, inaugurate completed ones and also interact with them.
These included the completed 7.2 kilometre tarred Afrancho- Nrtiribuoho- Bomso road, completion of the small towns' water system at Ejuratia, and an on-going six classroom block at Abidjan krom.
He also inaugurated blocks of classrooms at Kodie and teachers' quarters and a classrooms at Penteng.
He stressed the need for assemblies to ensure fair and equitable distribution of resources in the various districts.
Mr Agyemang-Mensah urged management to let unity of purpose and understanding, prevail in their deliberations as they work to support the development of the area.
Assemblies should work seriously to improve on their revenue collection for development instead of relying on the Common Fund for project development.
Mr Kwaku Oppong-Kyekyeku Kaakyire, District Chief Executive (DCE), said the assembly's office building project was nearing completion adding, the local government unit currently operated its central administration from rented premises of a local road side Total Filling station.
The other decentralized departments, he said, were also operating from rented facilities in five communities in the district.
Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku, who called for support, said all employees of the assembly including himself were accommodated in rented houses within and outside the district adding, the situation posed a lot of inconveniences to staff and impact negatively on their performance.
Nana Boakye Yiadom Atonsa II, Presiding Member of the Assembly, said there were mutual relations among members of the assembly and this was helping in the rapid development of the district
