The Roberta Okyere Darko (ROD) Foundation, a non – governmental organisation, supporting the aged and widows in the society, has organised a get-to-gather party for residents of Tema Golf City and its environs.

The party organised in the Kpone Katamanso Constituency was part of the Foundation’s activities to mark the end of the year; by putting smiles on the faces of the beneficiaries and to give them hope and a sense of belonging.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Ms Roberta Okyere Darko, Founder of ROD Foundation, described Christmas as a season to express love and share with the vulnerable adding: “Is my greatest joy to bring together the aged and widows; to eat, drink, dance and have fun.”

She said the Foundation meets with the aged and widows in every fortnight to discuss their health and welfare, which includes a free health screening exercise, health talks as well as free medication.

She said she had observed that health issues are the major problems confronting the aged, and so, next year the foundation would embark on more health screening exercises and take-up their medical treatment.

Ms Okyere Darko noted that the foundation would introduce the aged to petty trading to enable them earn a living and support widows who could not afford to educate their wards.

She said the foundation’s major challenges is funding since the laudable initiatives had to do with money.

She called on churches, benevolent individuals and organisations, to support the activities of the foundation.

“We humbly appeal to the public to donate foods, clothes or assist in any form via 0244647463 or 0576061517,” she added.

Ms Okyere Darko appealed to the judicial service to fast track cases involving the aged.

Mr Yaw Amoah, one of the aged expressed gratitude to the foundation for the kind gesture.

He appealed to benevolent individuals and organisations to support the activities of the foundation and as a matter of urgency consider the welfare of the aged as a social responsibility.
