Rainstorm destroy school blocks and homes at Nsuta

Roofs of two public basic schools and some individual houses were ripped off by a rainstorm at Nsuta in the Sekyere Central District in Ashanti Region at the week-end.

The affected schools were Nsuta Catholic Primary and the Nsuta Presbyterian Junior High School.

Ms Monica Danso, head teacher of the Nsuta Catholic Primary said due to the storm, she had combined basic 5 & 6 in one classroom and 3 & 4 in another classroom.

At Nsuta Presbyterian JHS, three classrooms, office and store were affected leaving some text books, exercise books, pupils tables and chairs destroyed.

Mr. Kitson Osei Bonsu, purchasing clerk of the Produce Buying Company (PBC) at Nsuta, said the roof of the cocoa shed ripped off but fortunately eight bags of cocoa beans were not destroyed because of the ceiling.

Individual houses were also affected at Nsuta and at Beposo.

According to Mr. George Padmore Mensah, the District Coordinating Director, the District Assembly was assessing the situation to mobilize the needed resources to normalize the situation at the two public schools.

Some residents at Nsuta and Beposo who spoke to the GNA attributed the severe-rainstorm to the destructive nature of forestry in the district.

They said illegal-chain saw operators had invaded the district and cutting trees indiscriminately.
