Rainstorm destroys 40 buildings at Assin Adiembra

Assin Adiembra(C/R), May 19, GNA - About 40 buildings collapsed following a severe rain storm that hit Assin Adiembra, near Assin Foso on Sunday in the Central Region. Five persons, who sustained severe injuries, have been admitted at the St. Francis Xavier hospital at Assin Foso. The damage cost to properties is estimated to run into several million of Ghana cedis. Briefing the Ghana News Agency Mr Derrick Owusu-Ambrose, Assembly member for the area described the incident as the worst disaster that had hit the town in recent years. Mr Owusu-Ambrose, who is also the senior Pharmacist at the Agona Swedru District Hospital, said 10 buildings were completely destroyed, whilst 25 had their roofing ripped off. The Assembly Member said about 300 people have now rendered homeless and were lodging with relatives and friends. He appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and donor agencies to come to the aid of the victims.
