Aboso (W/R) May 18, GNA - The Aboso Methodist Junior Secondary School (JSS) in the Wassa West District has been closed down following the ripping off of the roof of the school block during a rainstorm that hit the town at the weekend.

Mr Kwaku Adjei Nuako, Head Teacher of the School, told the Ghana News Agency at Aboso that the more than 200 students had been affected and said the Educational Authorities and Community were looking for alternative places to be used as classrooms.

He said the school, which was constructed in 1925 by some Methodist Missionaries, had not seen any renovation, rendering the whole structure weak.

Mr Nuako said although he had written several letters to the Wassa West District Assembly, the District Directorate of Education and the Member of Parliament for Prestea-Huni Valley Constituency for help to renovated the block, it was only the Methodist Church that responded and donated 1.250 million cedis.

The Head Teacher, therefore, called on the Government to allocate some of the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Fund to construct a new structure for the school.

Mr Benjamin K. Asabil, Presiding Member of the District Assembly, said a contract for the construction of a block of three classrooms would be awarded soon.
