A recent rainstorm has caused substantial damage to some facilities at Aduman Senior High School in the Afigya Kwabre District of Ashanti.

However, no human casualty was recorded.

About 75 per cent of the school's fence wall has collapsed while the entire roofs of the Dining Hall, Visual Arts block and workshop, the boys' and girls' dormitories have been ripped off.

The ripped roofs also destroyed some electrical cables connecting facilities to the national grid.

Currently, about 325 students have been displaced, with most of them having their personal belongings destroyed by the rainstorm.

The extent of damage is estimated at over GHC300,000.

The Regional Director of Education, Mrs. Mary Owusu Achiaw, the District Director of Education, Mrs. Stella Ofori-Attah, the chief of the town, Nana Kwadwo Effah as well as District NADMO officials have already visited the school to see, at first hand, the extent of damage.

The Headmaster, Francis Yao Agorsor, told The Finder that the final year students writing the WASSCE at the School's Dining Hall, have been temporarily accommodated in some classrooms and the rest are lodging in makeshift rooms on campus, while efforts are being made to find a permanent solution to the problem.

According to Mr. Agorsor, sending the students home will not be in their best interest, that of their parents or the school's authority. He said the immediate measure authorities have taken to ensure the traumatised students, who are writing both external and internal exams, are not exposed to the community but rather concentrate on their studies.

Mr. Agorsor, however, expressed serious concerns about three kilometers poor road network from Kodie, the district capital to Aduman, and has, therefore, appealed to government and the Department of Feeder Roads to, as a matter of urgency, rehabilitate the road to bring relief to the school. Mr. Agorsor urged government to ensure that contractors working on 18-unit classroom block and 12-unit boys dormitory GetFund projects are on site for a speedy completion of the projects.

The Acting District Chief Executive, who is also the District Coordinating Director of Afigya Kwabre, Emelia Botchwey, sympathised with students and the management of the school after a tour of the school to ascertain extent of damage.

She assured the management of the assembly's immediate support to resolve the crisis.
