Rainstorm displaces over 2,000 at Zabzugu

Over 2,000 residents in the Zabzugu District of the Northern Region have been rendered homeless as a result of a rainstorm which destroyed properties worth millions of cedis.

Information reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates that children and pregnant women are currently sleeping in the open.

Officials of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) have not provided relief items to the affected individuals, families and communities.

Some of affected communities include Gor-langyili, Gor-Kukani, Kukpalligu, Belindo, Nakpali Nbebudo, among others.

About 152 houses and three churches in the district have been completely damaged after the rainstorm ripped off the roofing of the houses.

Four schools namely Kulkpaligu, DA Gor-langyili DA Gor-Kukani DA and Rajia Primary Schools, have also been ravaged by the rainstorm.

Affected persons have called on the government to immediately come to their aid.

The NADMO District Coordinator, Nana Nuhu, indicated that the registration of the affected victims was underway.

He gave assurance that relief items would be supplied immediately the registration process ends.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Zabzugu, Ahmed Abukari Iddrisu, said his outfit would collaborate with the District NADMO Coordinator to provide relief items to the victims as soon as possible.

He said they would provide temporary accommodation for them, especially the pregnant women, children and schools.
