Rainstorm wrecks Kaase primary school block

Thu, 1 Apr 2010 Source: GNA

Kumasi, April 1, GNA - A severe rainstorm that swept through parts of the Kumasi Metropolis on Tuesday night wrecked a three classroom block of the Kaasi M/A primary school, ripping off the roofs. About 170 pupils in the school now attend classes under trees. Madam Janet Agyapong, Headmistress, told the Ghana News Agency that the walls of the entire structure had been weakened and the Metropolitan Assembly would have to act quickly to prevent disaster. The block since it was built about 42 years ago, had never seen any renovation, she said, adding "things cannot continue this way." This was the second time in five years that the school had been devastated by strong winds accompanying rainfall. Meanwhile, officials from the Metropolitan National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the assembly member for Kaasi, Mr Charles Oduro Acheampong had visited the school.
