“Rebranding Africa”, a Community Interest Company (CIC) based in Milton Keynes, United Kingdom, has donated assorted food items to two schools, Tongo LA Primary and Nangodi Basic School in the Northern Region of Ghana.
The gesture is geared towards the realization of the group’s vision of establishing a feeding project in the Northern zone to feed school children in schools that are not currently covered by the National Schools Feeding Programme.
In a region characterized by under-development and poverty, children often drop out of school as a result of the inability of parents to adequately feed their wards. It is in view of this that the directors of “Rebranding Africa C.I.C” chose schools in this part of Ghana to start their feeding project.
Making the presentation, the local representative of “Rebranding Africa C.I.C” in Ghana, Eric Amesimeku reiterated the vision of the directors to help change the negative image of Africa. He disclosed that, it is the aim of “Rebranding Africa C.I.C” to establish a functioning feeding programme in the chosen schools to help boost the nutritional needs of pupils.
He, on behalf of the directors of Rebranding Africa CIC, also expressed appreciation to Grasshopper Foods, Dove Farms, Provamel, Pomegreat, AB World Foods, Thomas Tunnocks Ltd., Mrs. Crimble’s Meridian Foods, Tropical Whole Foods and 3V Natural Foods, all in the United Kingdom for their support to the “Rebranding Africa’s” Feeding project.
Receiving the items on behalf of his school, the Headmaster of Nangodi Basic School, Francis Sapaat, expressed his gratitude to the Directors of “Rebranding Africa C.I.C”, for seeing the need in helping the deprived in society.
He said: “This gesture will go a long way in keeping the kids in the classroom and drawing the attention of the world to the plight of pupils in the Upper East Region of Ghana.” On his part, the Headmaster of Tongo LA Primary School, Silas Mahama, encouraged other well-meaning philanthropists to follow the good works of “Rebranding Africa C.I.C.” He expressed his school’s appreciation to “Rebranding Africa C.I.C”
The group which was founded by Hannah Kumi and David Akakpo, both based in the United Kingdom, has among its aims, a vision to help correct the negative images of hunger, war, poverty and squalor that Africa has always been associated with.
“Rebranding Africa C.I.C.” has partnered with the Africa Union Commission and the United Nations Association of the UK in Milton Keynes to work on projects aimed at promoting the image of Africa. Whilst it was set up to be a resource centre that empowers Africans to promote Africa, the group operates on the treasured belief of African greats like Dr. Kwame Nkrumah that, only Africans can change the negative perception that the world has of their continent and that change will only happen if they work together.
