Sekondi, Jan 29, GNA - The Right Reverend Albert David Gomez, Bishop of the Guinea Anglican Communion said there was the need for Christians to allow God to direct in all leadership issues in the church.
He said infighting, strife, accusations and other negative acts, did not promote the mission and vision of the church but rather divided the church among ethnic, tribal and social lines.
Bishop Gomez, who is also the Dean of the Church of Province of West Africa (CPWA), said these at a reconciliatory service held at the Cathedral Church of Saint Andrew, the Apostle said in Sekondi on Sunday. Rev. Gomez is the leader of an eight-member delegation from the Provincial Secretariat of the CPWA in Accra, to find an amicable solution to the growing disagreement between the church leadership and the parish.
Preaching the sermon on "Unity", Bishop Gomez said many people did not allow God to speak through them and allow the pressures of society to influence their decisions.
He said the church cannot function properly without unity and urged all parishioners to work hand in hand for the growth of the church.
Bishop Gomez cautioned them that the future of their church remained in their hands and they must do everything possible to safeguard it.
It would be re-called that some parishioners had filed court suits against the leadership of the church for inappropriately electing Venerable Colonel (Rtd) John Kwamina Otoo, as the Bishop of the Sekondi Diocese in contravention of the church's constitution. A consecration service, which should have been held on December 21, last year at the Saint Stephen's Anglican Church, Tema, was postponed due a court injunction.
A Tema High Court sitting on January 20 this year placed a 10 days injunction of the consecration and enthronement service within the church or any part of the church.
However the consecration ceremony took place on January 22 at Tema. Red flags had been hang around the entire premises of the Cathedral Church of Saint Andrew, the Apostle in Sekondi, while the church service was held outdoors in protest against the consecration of Ven. Otoo, as the bishop of Sekondi.
There was a Police presence around the church premises.
