Kumasi, Sept 20, GNA- Muslim youth in the country have been urged to refrain from acts that will bring the name of the Islamic religion into disrepute.
Alhaji Ahmed Akwasi Yeboah, Kwabre District Chief Executive, said Islam stands for peace and it is up to Muslims to draw more people into the religion than drive them away through acts of indiscipline. He was speaking at the 11th National Conference of the Tijania Muslim Movement at the Central Mosque in Kumasi on Saturday.
Alhaji Yeboah said it was unfortunate that most of the reported criminal cases in the metropolis involve some Muslim youth and called on those who know criminals to do well to expose or report them to the security agencies.
Ustaz Mahammed Mairiga Issa, an Arabic teacher and Imam for the Guruma community, speaking on the topic, "Virtues of the Sheikh", called on the Muslim youth to embrace secular education so that they can effectively involve themselves in the country's development. He stressed the need for Muslims to be law-abiding and desist from negative acts that militate against human development and peaceful co-existence with their neighbours.
Ustaz Issa said there is the need for them to always strive for peace and unity in all their endeavours.
Sheikh Mohammed Amin-Bamba, an Islamic preacher, who also spoke on "Sufism, its significance in Islam", asked Muslims to work hard to get closer to God so that he will guide them.
Sheikh Abdul Munin Haroun, Deputy Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, called on Muslim parents to send their children to school and also learn to forgive those who offend them. 20 Sept. 03
