Mr Aquainas Tawiah Quansah, the Deputy Central Regional Minister, has called on members of the various political parties to refrain from unnecessary quarrels that could disturb the peace of the country.
He said this at a meeting with some fishing communities including, Moree, Elmina and Komenda on Tuesday, where he discussed some of governments plans with them.
He asked all Ghanaians to take the biometric registration exercise seriously whilst praying for peace during the elections.
Mr Quansah advised the youth against being used by politicians to cause mayhem and pledged government’s commitment to ensure that fishermen were provided with the required fishing inputs.
He said government had contacted a Chinese firm for the manufacture of outboard motors and other fishing inputs like nets, which would soon be distributed to fishermen on hire purchase.
Nana Kweegya VII, the chief fisherman of Moree, told the deputy Minister that the plight of fishermen had increased as a result of some factors, including the absence of a safe landing site and affordable fishing inputs.
He appealed to the authorities to construct roads and drains in the town and thanked the government for allowing them to undertake development projects with the profits accrued from the sale of the premix fuel. **
