Kumasi, Sept 18, GNA - Mr Emmanuel Asamoah Owusu-Ansah, the Ashanti Regional Minister, on Monday appealed to Zongo chiefs and elders to embrace the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and encourage their people to register with the scheme.

He said though the payment of the initial premium might be a problem, the benefits to be derived from being a member of the scheme were enormous.

The Regional Minister said this when the chiefs and the elders of the Council of Zongo Chiefs in the Ashanti Region called on him. Explaining government policies and programmes to them, Mr Owusu-Ansah said the government was very much concerned about the number of children out of school.

He appealed to them to advise the youth in their communities to refrain from the use of hard drugs and other negative habits that could destabilise peace and unity in the region

Mr Owusu-Ansah reminded the chiefs on the need to ensure peace and progress in their communities in support of the government's developmental programmes.

He urged them to endeavour to tolerate divergent view in spite of political and religious affiliations so that together "we support the government in building the economy". Chief Ahmed Ibrahim, President of the Council, pledged their support for the government and stressed that they would support the minister in his endeavours.
