The new Northern Regional Minister Abdalla Abubakar has visited the palace of the Paramount chief of Mamprugu Traditional Area, Nayiri Naa Bohagu Mahami Shirega to introduce himself.

He was accompanied by members of Regional Security Council (REGSEC) such as Deputy Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini, Deputy High Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Hajia Boya Gariba and the Northern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Sofo Azoka.

The regional minister, who is a native of the area, was appointed ostensibly to counter the influence of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, a royal and NPP Vice Presidential Candidate from the area, who is making waves for the area.

It was therefore not surprising that the regional minister and his entourage first paid a courtesy call on the Overlord of Mamprugu, Naa Bohagu Mahami Shirega.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, the Regional Minister assured Nayiri Naa Bohagu Mahami that REGSEC will support him to ensure lasting peace in Bunkpurugu.

All over the world there has never been development in an atmosphere of conflict, the continuous fighting in the region could scare away potential investors and deprive the good people of Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo development, he indicated.

The Minister commended Nayiri for his efforts in bringing an end to the seemingly protracted violence and the burning of houses at Bunkpurugu.

Nayiri Naa Bohagu Mahami, who doubles as President of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs, stated that there were plans to hold a meeting with the two factions in the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo chieftaincy conflict.

According to him, the date of the meeting is yet to be communicated to both factions- the Jafouk and Jamon families-to end the long-standing conflict in the area to promote peace.

Fresh clashes erupted in the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo District in the Northern Region between the Jamon and Jafouk clans over the legitimate occupant of the skin in the area, forcing residents to flee from the town with their families.

Nayiri Naa Bohagu Mahami also reminded the regional minister about the complex issues in the region and wished him and his administration well.

The chief called for circumspection in all trouble spots in the region to promote peace and development in the deprived region.

He urged all political parties in the country to conduct themselves well before, during and after this year’s general elections.
