Kumasi, Nov 27, GNA- Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister, has advised business executives in the region to take advantage of computer literacy and acquire more information in order to improve and expand their businesses.

He said knowledge and skills in computers were crucial since business environment was becoming competitive and dynamic. Mr Boafo gave the advice at the closing session of a one-week Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) training workshop for executives of Trade and Business Associations in Ashanti in Kumasi on Friday.

The training programme, under the theme, "Effective Application of ICT for Business and Advocacy", was organised by the Private Enterprises Foundation (PEF) with support from USAID.

Twenty-five members of the Association of Small-Scale Industries (ASSI) in the region participated in the programme. Mr Boafo said what was more encouraging in computer usage was the possibility to network and carry out day-to-day communication and exchange of ideas with others.

He said Ashanti Region needed relevant skills and knowledge to harness its developmental efforts and programmes. He therefore, charged the business communities to take advantage of the training to expand their businesses.

Mr Samuel Eshun, Chief Executive Officer of Vitalinfonet Computer Services, who was the resource person, said the participants were taught the practical way of setting up business appointments electronically, store and process business associates contact information electronically, the use of the Internet for effective, fast and low cost communication and online meeting of partners. He said the company was looking forward to the day when businesses in Ghana would take advantage of the technology to create wealth and enhance economic development.
