Sunyani, Jan. 22, GNA - Mr Edward Obeng Marfo, Director at the Office of the President, Chieftaincy Division, on Thursday advised workers of traditional councils to eschew attitudes that would tarnish the image of the institution.
He urged them to avoid alcoholism during working hours as the practice could affect their health and their productivity. Mr Marfo was opening a two-day workshop in Sunyani aimed at upgrading the skills of assistant registrars, senior traditional council registrars and senior bailiffs in Brong Ahafo.
The workshop was also to provide the participants with modern concepts, policies and practices for their work, and for their efficient handling of official duties.
Mr Marfo entreated the participants to perform their duties with zeal, enthusiasm and be fair without being partial.
Mr Marfo noted that the staff of traditional councils and Houses of Chiefs "have been appointed to render service to the public" and must therefore, be furnished with thorough knowledge of the work.
The director advised them to be punctual to work, be submissive and must cooperate with the chiefs. They must also avoid getting involved in matters that did not relate to their official duties.
Nana Kwadwo Nyarko III, Pranghene and President of the Regional House of Chiefs, in a speech read on his, urged the participants to take the training seriously so they could in turn train their subordinates to enhance performance and increase productivity.
He stated that the programme would be meaningless if the beneficiaries did not show any commitment to achieve results at the end of it and expressed the hope that the workshop would help improve their performance to justify the huge investment made by the chieftaincy secretariat.
