The two-week replacement of the voters' register exercise in the Eastern Region ended successfully, the Regional Electoral Officer, Mr Samuel Ntow said. Speaking in an interview with the GNA at Koforidua, he said the exercise went on smoothly without any major hitches and estimated the level of coverage in the region to be, at least, 95 per cent, which he described as "largely successful.

He said based on the Region's existing 2000 total voters strength of 1,237,397, "we virtually exceeded our set targets in many registration centres", saying in some places, the number registered exceeded the target by between 100 to 200 voters. The total number registered would, however, be known by Friday, he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Ntow announced that the Afram Plains District Electoral Officer, Mr Kofi Kyei-Duodu, had been admitted to the St Joseph's Hospital on Monday following limb injury he sustained in a motor accident while monitoring the registration exercise in the area on Saturday.
