Quaye
Accra, March 19, GNA - Sheikh Ibrahim Cudjoe Quaye, Greater-Accra Regional Minister, on Friday urged Ghanaians to register so that they could exercise their franchise in Election 2004.
He said the registration exercise constituted part of the process of organizing mutual consultations where various representatives would be elected to pass laws and deliberate on State matters. Sheikh Quaye made this statement on the last day of the 75th Annual National Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission at Ashongman, near Accra.
The theme for this year's convention was: "Unity in Diversity: The Path to National Stability and Development" sought to highlight the importance of peaceful co-existence as the foundation of collective life in Islam.
He said a decade ago, Ghanaians chose multiparty democratic governance as the desired means to organize their lives to attain the goals of socio-economic development.
He said under this form of governance, periodic elections were to be conducted for the citizens to choose the group to be entrusted with responsibility of running the affairs of the State.
He, therefore, urged Muslims not to lose sight of the teachings of Allah, which enjoined them to vote for people, who were capable of discharging the trust reposed in them.
Sheikh Quaye also advised Ghanaians to eschew their religious and ethnic differences and forge ahead for the collective development of the country.
He said religion had to constantly remind its adherents of the commonality of the world, adding that it must educate its followers that diversity of cultures, beliefs and language was the design of God. Muavi Wahab Adam, Ameer and Missionary -in-charge of the Movement in Ghana, thanked individuals and members of the Mission for their contributions and support towards the visit of the Supreme Head to the country.
Later in the day, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, Khalifatul Masir V, Supreme Head of the World-Wide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community led the Friday Jumah prayers, which was beamed live through satellite to millions of followers across the world.
