Rekindle self-help spirit -DCE

Brakwa (C/R), Nov. 19, GNA - The District Chief Executive for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa, Mr Emmanuel Adjei Domson has urged people in the rural area to rekindle their self-help spirit to support government programmes to improve their living conditions. He said since the national cake is not adequate to meet the demands of the nation.

It is imperative that they mobilise resources from their respective communities to supplement the little the government can offer.

Mr. Domson was addressing chief, queenmothers, elders, stakeholders, teachers and pupil in Brakwa as part of his one week-long formalisation tour of the district to acquaint himself of the problems facing the communities.

He appeal to them to bury their differences and come together to help promote unity towards accelerated growth, adding that his good intentions for the district would help promote considerable socio-economic development to alleviate poverty among the people. He announced that the assembly have received an amount of 500 million cedis as its share of Poverty Alleviation fund adding, "the... amount will be used to support the youth to go into cassava and chillies farming as financial booster".

Mr Domson assured them of the assembly's preparedness to rehabilitate the market in the town to a modern status to increase income for the farmers and traders.

He presented three twenty-nine inch television sets and 1,200 exercise books to the school in the town to enhance the distance education programme initiated by the President and refuse container. Mr. Domson disclosed that the District Assembly has set aside an amount of seven million cedis to sponsor one person from the town to attend nursing training and come back to help in health care delivery. Mr Kwame Asiedu, the assemblyman of the area, who chaired the function, thanked the DCE for the visit and promised that he and the elders of the town, will monitor the use of the items given them to prolong their life span.

He appealed to the government to rehabilitate the road from Brakwa to Odoben to improve free movement of goods and services to the market centres.
