Mr Tei Larbi, Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, has called on chiefs in Aburi to offer more land for development projects as the area has been elevated to a district capital status.
He said this would help enhance the living standards of the people and help to give an appropriate facelift to the town.
Mr Larbi, who made the call on Sunday during the celebration of Akwasidae festival of the chiefs and people of Aburi, appealed to the chiefs to end their land litigations which has retarded progress in the society.
The Deputy Minister said the 24-kilometre Aburi – Nsawam road has been awarded on contract and that soon work would begin so as to bring comfort to travelers and facilitate the easy carting of foodstuff to the city centres.
He advised drivers to curb speeding on the roads to save lives and property in the area.
Otoobour Djan Kwasi II, Chief of Aburi, commended the government for the honour done to the people by naming Aburi as the district capital for Akuapem South Municipality.
He said the district status would bring job opportunities to the doorsteps of the people and at the same time reduce the rural/urban drift.
Mr Mark Amoako Dompreh, the Municipal Chief Executive for Akuapem South, said the Assembly would establish an Information Communication Technology (ICT) centre to train the youth to become computer literate and a two-storey complex market would also be built for the area.
Mr Osei Bonsu Amoah, Member of Parliament for Aburi-Nsawam, assured the people that he would support the Assembly’s projects from his share of the MPs Common fund and called on the people to be united to bring development to the area.
Mr William Cofie Lettu, Municipal Electoral Officer, praised the people of Akuapem South Municipality for the peaceful biometric registration exercise.
He said 55,660 people have so far been registered in the first and second phase of the exercise and appealed to the people to maintain the peaceful momentum in the rest of the registration phases.**
