Relief items presented to rainstorm victims

Manso-Nkwanta (Ash), Aug 17, GNA - The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has presented relief items worth about 200 million cedis to 168 rainstorm victims at Manso-Apenapong and Manso-Nkwanta in the Amansie West district of Ashanti.

The items were 500 bags of cement, 100 packets of roofing sheets, boards and 300 boxes of nails.

Presenting the items, Mr Benjamin Kwakye-Adeefe, the District Chief Executive, said the items, is only meant for 168 victims and that the remaining 137 victims would be considered later.

He said it is the policy of the government to assist disaster victims to rehabilitate their damaged houses and asked them to employ competent artisans to renovate the houses for a longer life span. Mr Kwakye-Adeefe also asked them to start planting trees around the houses to serve as a wind brakes to prevent future disasters. Mr Osei Bonsu, the District NADMO Co-ordinator asked the people to use the items for the purpose it was intended for.

Mr Charles Mensah, assemblyman for Manso-Apenapong, on behalf of the victims thanked the government for its assistance and pledged to make use of the items.
