Kumasi, Nov. 12, GNA - A solemn service to commemorate the 61st Remembrance Day in honour of fallen heroes, who died for world peace and unity, was held on Saturday in Kumasi.
The service, which used to be held at the Post Office Square, took place at the Commonwealth Memorial Cemetery at the Tafo public cemetery in Kumasi, which houses some 118 graves of West African soldiers and four British soldiers.
There was libation, as well as Muslim and Christian prayers, for the departed souls.
Five wreaths were laid to mark the occasion. Mr Gorden Wetheral, British High Commissioner to Ghana, laid the first wreath on behalf of the British Government while Mr Emmanuel Asamoah Owusu-Ansah, Ashanti Regional Minister, laid the second wreath on behalf of the Ghana Government.
Brigadier General Joseph N Adinkrah, General Officer Commanding the Northern Sector, laid the third wreath on behalf of Security Service while Warrant Officer Francis Appiah-Danquah, Chairman of the Ashanti regional branch of the Veterans Association of Ghana, laid one on behalf of the Association. Baffour Asare Owusu Amankwatia V, Bantamahene, laid the last wreath on behalf of the Traditional Authority.
