Kumasi, Aug 04, GNA - Mrs Ernestina Fredua-Antoh, a Senior Research Fellow of the Bureau of Integrated Rural Development (BIRD) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has advised teachers to maintain a high standard of professionalism to promote effective teaching and learning.

She said teachers should uphold the virtues of morality and code of ethics of the teaching profession since the youth looked up to them for inspiration.

Mrs Fredua-Antoh was speaking at the first Open Day of the Rhema Salvation Preparatory School at Ayeduase near KNUST in Kumasi on Thursday.

She said the spate of gross insubordination among some teachers in recent times should be looked at seriously with the view to addressing the problem since education was the cornerstone of the nation's development process.

She said that school authorities should strive to bring to book undisciplined teachers since they could influence the up and coming youth.

Mrs Theresa Owusu-Bi, headmistress of the school, appealed to parents to be dedicated to paying their wards' fees regularly for the effective running of the school.
