Abuakwa (Ash), Dec 12, GNA - The chiefs and people of Abuakwa in the Atwima-Nwabiagya district of Ashanti have given the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) a one-week ultimatum to solve their power and water problems. They have therefore, threatened to stage a demonstration and march to the Ashanti regional offices of the two companies to press home their demand for better services.

The residents complained that for about three weeks now they had faced water shortage and experienced power disruption and that some of them carry jerry cans to Kumasi to get water. They wondered why Tanoso and Asuoyeboa which were very close to Abuakwa did not face these problems and said in spite of all these problems, bills from these companies remained the same if not higher.

When the GNA contacted Mr Michael Amoah-Awuku, the assemblyman for Abuakwa, he said he had made several approaches to the two institutions on the matter all to no avail. He said he has had to restrain the people, especially the youth to exercise restraint on a number of occasions but that now the situation had gotten out of hand since the people were now fed up and the only option left to them was to seek police protection to stage a demonstration.
