Some residents in Accra have condemned the rate at which movie producers and other organisations are pasting walls in the capital city with posters.
They said these posters were contributing to the dirt that had engulfed the capital city and urged the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to halt it.
Madam Gladys Afari, a trader at the Makola Market, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview on Thursday that even though the inscription “post no bill” are written on most of the walls, people disregarded them and pasted posters on walls in the name of advertising.
“The culprits in this case are movie producers who advertise new movies and churches and event organisers do the same,” she said and suggested that fines should be imposed on culprits.
Madam Cynthia Yeboah, a trader at Kantamanto, said apart from filth engulfing the city, posters on walls was also making Accra unattractive.
She said AMA should not only concentrate on de-silting gutters in the city or finding places to dump refuse but also make sure that posters of various kinds were only posted at approved places.
Mr Ben Ansah, a video DVD seller at Opera Square, said even though the posters helped create awareness of new movies in town; "it is important only approved places are used” and appealed to the AMA to enforce its rules on advertising.
