The residents of Dzorwulu have expressed deep frustration over the appalling state of their roads, which has led to frequent accidents and significant inconvenience for motorists.
The roads are badly deteriorated, riddled with large potholes and patches where the tar has come off, making them practically impassable.
Furthermore, the roads become stagnant with muddy water, worsening the difficulties for commuters trying to access them.
Residents lamented the neglect by authorities for over a period of 5 years.
Speaking exclusively with GhanaWeb's Sandra Obiribea, Dennis Casley-Hayford, a resident of Dzorwulu, said a contractor hired to perform repair works on the road attempted to asphalt the area but abruptly abandoned the project after performing a shoddy work.
“I would say at the top of the list is the road, especially within where I live, that’s Botwe-Dzorwulu roads and its nearby environs. The road is terrible, it's literally riddled with potholes all over the place. The rainy season has made it worse.
“For about 5 years ago, roads haven’t been done here. Actually, at some point I think about 2-3 years ago, we had a contractor who came to asphalt the area. Part of the work was done and the contractor bolted and didn’t do the rest, so if you drive within Botwe-Dzorwulu road, again nearby environments within the community, you’ll see a lot of streets that haven’t been done. It's terrible for over 4-5 years, it's just bad, it’s becoming impassable,” he stated.
The Assemblyman for Dzorwulu Central, Sydney Nene Carbo appealed to the government for immediate intervention over the poor road infrastructure.
“As you can see, the roads are very bad and being the assemblyman you are always the first point of contact for everybody. People ask questions, why are the roads like this, what is going on, it’s been like this for years. The residents are not really happy with the potholes, most of them are not really happy with the damage of roads that lead to their homes and they will be very happy if the government would do something about it because it is so bad that you can’t even drive your car home. People get accidents even trying to ply through these potholes so we appeal to the government to look at our situation,” he said.
