Kotokrom (B/A), Oct. 23, GNA - Mr Paul Kofi Adu, an Enumerator in-charge of Kotokrom in the Sunyani Municipality, has pleaded with residents to exercise restraint as each one would be enumerated. "Now that the authorities have endorsed yet another extension of the enumeration period and with two additional enumerators assigned to Kotokrom, there is the possibility that every Tom, Dick and Harry in the town would be enumerated," he said.
Mr Adu was reacting to complaints made by the residents concerning the slow pace at which the Population and Housing Census (PHC) exercise is going on in the town.
This unfortunate situation was creating problems for the patriotic and committed residents who are waiting to be enumerated to ensure that the town also benefited from government's interventions regarding distribution of the "national cake".
In an interview with Ghana News Agency on Friday, Mr Adu hinted that from the beginning of the exercise, he had been the only enumerating officer "on beat" at Kotokrom until last Thursday, October 21, when two enumerators were asked to join him to fast-track the work. He said the exercise in Kotokrom was expected to cover 915 structures in communities such as Bredi, Abinga Junction, Patron, Dwira, Agya-Nkrumah Palm Plantation, Asunkwaa and Cemetery area.
Mr Adu, also a teacher at Kotokrom Municipal Assembly Basic School, said he had been able to cover 308 structures out of the 915. He argued that the PHC was not the same as registration of eligible voters for electoral purposes, which was limited by age, and that in the PHC all human beings including houses and structures needed to be counted. 23 Oct. 10
