Accra, June 14, GNA - Residents of North Kaneshie in Accra face imminent health hazards as companies contracted to collect refuse have over the past two weeks failed to clear heaps of rubbish in front of houses.

They are therefore calling on the authorities to ensure compliance by the refuse collecting companies or they abrogate the contract.

Some of the residents told the Ghana News Agency at North Kaneshie Last Stop, Point Four, Demond, Assemblies of God and other parts of the area that they feared the outbreak of diseases, including cholera.

Beside the failure of the refuse collecting companies, GNA also saw poor disposal of human waste, especially in congested areas.

A stroll along some of the link roads in the area revealed an alarming sight as heaps of garbage continue to mount every day as the residents dump all kinds of waste beside the official containers provided by the companies.

Some residents told the GNA that the companies are to collect the refuse on a weekly basis but for the past two weeks there had been no sign of waste collection.
