Kumasi, Aug. 27, GNA - Queens have been urged to develop the inner strength to resist overtures by people who have no legitimate title to vacant stools to prevent tension and chaos during installation of new chiefs.

Nana Boakye Ansah Debrah, Asokore-Mamponghene, said if the selection process of chiefs were transparent, the sometimes nasty confrontation and violence could be avoided.

The choice should not be influenced by wealth and favouritism but must strictly be based on good character and leadership abilities, he said.

Nana Boakye Ansah Debrah was contributing to discussions at a day's seminar on the "Enstoolment and Destoolment of Chiefs", organized for more than 30 selected queenmothers at the Centre for National Culture (CNC) in Kumasi.

It was held under the auspices of the CNC to sensitize the queenmothers on the criteria for selecting chiefs and how to make the right decisions and choices.

Nana Boakye Ansah Debrah advised royals who are heirs to stools to live above reproach.

Nana Kwadwo Nyantakyi III, Asantehene's Sanaahene, said the queens should help preserve the nation's rich culture and traditions.

The Director for the CNC, Mr S.F. Adjei, urged them to take the seminar seriously to help maintain the dignity of the Chieftaincy Institution.
