Winneba (C/R), May 19, GNA - Mr Solomon Quashie Abbam-Quaye, Immediate-Past Chief Executive of Awutu-Senya District has called for women to be trained and resourced to ensure success in the poverty reduction programmes and policies. He said women as mothers and caretakers at homes form 51 per cent of the total population of the country and, therefore, if properly trained and resourced would contribute towards the building of the country.

Mr Abbam-Quaye said this at a graduation and hair show ceremony by Joygeo Hair and Beauty Training Centre at Winneba, in the Central Region. He appealed to the Government and other Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) to assist in the training of girls, especially those from deprived homes. He entreated parents and guardian to use their limited resources to groom their children especially the girls to grow to become useful citizens in the society.

Madam Angela Joyce Cann, Chief Executive Officer of the Centre, said since the Centre was established in 1996 to complement the efforts in the training of girls, about 50 girls have so far been trained. She said the Centre currently offered 15 subjects and trainees took three years to complete. Madam Cann appealed to parents and guardians of girls at the Centre to give them the necessary financial and material supports to enable them to undertake their training. She appealed to parents to give their children adequate money for their daily feeding to prevent them from falling into the hands of unscrupulous men, adding that, feeding fees as low as 20 pesewas a day was not good enough. 19 May 09
