Retired workers told to continue assisting the nation

Apam (C/R), Dec 29, GNA - A retired health worker has appealed to his colleagues to place their experience and expertise at the disposal of the nation. "You should not see your retirement as the end of your service to the nation." Mr Samuel Danquah, Gomoa District Parent of Ghana Health Service (GHS), said the GHS needed its retired personnel from time to time to complement the efforts of those in active service in health care delivery. District Parents are health personnel appointed in the regions to be in charge of health activities in the districts.

Mr Danquah was addressing a get-together at Apam organized by Gomoa District Directorate of GHS in honour of Madam Diana Hall-Baidu, the District Director, who has retired. He suggested to retired health personnel to form an association to support the GHS.

Ms Patricia Antwi, the new District Director, commended Madam Hall-Baidu for working hard to make the directorate what it is today and that it was during her time that Gomoa was adjudged the best performing district in public health in the Central Region in 2003. "She is the brain behind the construction of many health facilities in the district." Mr Samuel Sosi, the Central Regional Nutrition Officer, commended the District Directorate for collaborating with Plan Ghana, a non-governmental organization, and the district assembly to put up a Nutrition Centre, the second of its kind in the region, at Apam. Mr Sosi, who is also the Mfantseman District Director of Health, urged the directorate in Gomoa to ensure that the Nutrition Centre was fully utilized.
