Rev Korankye Ankrah denies cheating over tithes

Mon, 19 Sep 2005 Source: --

The general overseer of the Royal Chapel International has refuted allegations of cheating and high-handedness leveled against him by a member of his church.

Reverend Sam Korankye Ankrah was reacting to a Crusading Guide report in which a former employee of the church, Emmanuel Koranteng, alleged that the church was deducting tithes, which is one-tenth of their salaries from source.

Mr. Koranteng, who was the driver of the general overseer, also said his employer based the deductions of the tithes on bible verses which among other things demanded penalty for defaulting in the payment of tithes.

But, Reverend Korankye Ankrah denies the allegation saying the deduction of the tithes at source is an arrangement between employees and the church and that it is common practice among many churches.

? The current people that we work with are all in agreement that they need to pay their tithes. It is convenient if is deducted at source and we have their mandate to do that. Anyone who is not in agreement can go for his or her money. But as far as I am concerned the people we have in the church are in agreement and are comfortable with the deduction at source. Some of them are still in the church today,? he said.
