Rev Minister urges youth to stay away from corruption

Assin Fosu (C/R), July 20, GNA - The Very Reverend Ebenezer Boateng Enninful, Lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, last Saturday, tasked the youth, especially those in tertiary institutions, to endeavour to lead principled lives. He urged them to resist "the temptation to join the corruption syndrome", and to rather strive to serve as role models both at their work places after graduating and within their communities. The Rev Enninful made the call in a sermon at a "commendation service" for final year students of the Fosu Training College, at Assin-Fosu.

The service, which was to bless, inspire and seek God's guidance for the students to enable them adequately meet future challenges, coincided with the launch of the College's 40th anniversary. The celebration on the theme, "Enhancing Human Resource Development Through Quality Teacher Education in the 21st Century: Prospects and Challenges for FOSCO", would focus on expanding the college's infrastructure and the provision of transport and library facilities.

The Principal of the College, Mr James Mensah, told the students to take advantage of the opportunity, when plans by the Ghana Education Service to introduce a 'top-up programme' to upgrade post secondary certificate holders into diploma holders, begins. He said the College had since its inception 39 years ago produced more than 5,000 teachers and appealed to the MPs for the Assin North and South Districts, individuals and organisations to help in implementing projects earmarked for the anniversary.

The Prefect, Mr Theophilus Arthur, called for a reduction of the one year period of attachment of the in-out-in programme being ran at the College, to enable students have ample time for their project work and final examination.

The Chairman for the function, Mr Robert Kutin, appealed to the government to improve the condition of service for teachers to make the teaching career more attractive.

Mr Kwabena Karikari Apau, Assin North District Chief Executive, appealed for support for the College. The MP for the area pledged 300 bags of cement, the Assin South District Assembly, 50 bags, while Mr Kutin, promised the College five million cedis. Mr Apau later unveiled the 40th anniversary cloth and banner to mark the start of the celebration.
