Begoro (E/R), March 7, GNA - Revenue collectors of the Fanteakwa District Health Insurance Scheme have been asked to intensify their house-to-house education and registration of more clients for the scheme.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Ahomahomasu on Tuesday after an educational programme, Mr Eugene Opoku Afrifa, Fanteakwa District Manager of the scheme, noted that ignorance and illiteracy made the people not to understand the concept of the National Health Insurance Scheme, despite numerous educational campaigns.

Mr Afrifa asked the revenue collectors not to sit down at home expecting the people to come to them to register. He asked them to submit regular returns on premiums collected to avoid the temptation of embezzlement.

Mr Afrifa said the scheme had so far received 487.9 million cedis from the National Health Insurance Council.

He said the scheme also received 323.1 million cedis subsidy for SSNIT contributors and exempt groups from the Council last December. Mr Afrifa said the scheme has advanced efforts to sign contract with some chemical shops in the district to help customers obtain un-available hospital drugs at no cost to themselves.

He commended DANIDA for donating one motorbike to the scheme to facilitate its operations.
