The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) has been appointed as the Chancellor of the Presbyterian University College (PUC).

He is the first Moderator to be formally appointed to the position.

This was announced at the 9th congregation of the PUC at Abetifi, where 541 students who offered various programmes at the different campuses of the University, were awarded with degrees with 15 females receiving First class out of the 37.

Giving his address, Professor Emmanuel Martey, said the church is committed to quality education by providing holistic training to produce leaders of integrity who are disciplined to bring change to the Ghanaian society.

He said the church would continue to ensure that the proverbial ‘Presbyterian discipline’ is maintained in all its institutions by supporting the institutions to build infrastructure and systems to realise that.

The Moderator announced that, the church had donated a building facility at Osu Kuku Hill to be used as an Accra office of the school and part as a guest house to generate funds for the running of the school to net its objective.

He was optimistic that the graduates would exhibit high sense of discipline and competency in every field they find themselves as products of Presbyterian training adding: “With such attitude, I have no doubt that you will get jobs.”

The President of the University, Reverend Prof Emmanuel Adow Obeng, indicated that, the PUC continue to excel in academic excellence, particularly the Nursing Department, which continue to excel at the licensure examinations.

He said the 2015 results of the licensure examination held by the Nursing and Midwifery Council, showed that the Nursing Department scored 87.8 per cent, one of the highest percentages in the country.

Rev Obeng hinted that, plans are far advanced to introduce graduate programmes such as Doctor of Optometry, Law, International Development, Natural Resources Management and Educational Technology in the 2016-2017 academic year.

He advised the students to be a beacon of trust, adding that “trust is an expensive commodity in this country, please do not go out there and add to the mistrust, make a difference”.
