Kumasi, Dec.18, GNA- Mrs Belinda Serwaah Addo, Ashanti Regional Director of Education has called for a periodic review of school rules and regulations to bring them in line with the socio-economic changes and conventionally acceptable norms of behaviour.

She said there was the need to ensure the involvement of teachers in the formulation of the rules to ensure prudent enforcement and also mitigate the desire of certain teachers for cheap popularity in the enforcement of the rules.

Besides, she said the involvement of teachers is likely to prevent severe interpretation of rules or the rigid adherence to the letter. Mrs Addo said this in an address read on her behalf by Mr James Osman Adjei, Head of the Ashanti Regional Guidance and Counselling Unit of the Ghana Education Service, at the inauguration of the military cadet corps of Queens and Kings International and JSS at Buokrom in the Kumasi Metropolis at the weekend.

The Regional Director said academic fortunes of education depended largely on the ability of parents, teachers and students and the community at large to collaborate effectively to establish and sustain a congenial atmosphere for quality teaching and learning.

She stressed the need for parents to counsel their children on the negative aspects of anti-social activities and urged the children to show exemplary conduct both at home and in school.

Mrs Addo told the members of the cadet corps that they have become role models for the entire student body and must be prepared to go the extra mile to complement the efforts of the school authorities in the promotion of hard academic work and discipline in the school. Madam Patricia Appiagyei, the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, in a speech read on her behalf, congratulated the school authorities on their vision and urged other schools in the Metropolis to form cadet corps.

She said the Assembly totally supports the efforts of the school aimed moulding the children to become useful citizens, adding that the Assembly was ready to offer them the needed support and assistance. "You therefore have to be in constant touch with the Assembly to enable it effectively collaborate your efforts", she said.

Madam Regina Gyimah, popularly known as "Teacher Attaa",

Proprietress of the School said the introduction of the Corps has brought total change in the lives and activities of the children and appealed to parents to support the school to inculcate hard work and discipline in the children.

Mr Ebenezer Osei-Asare, Head teacher of the JSS said high academic attainment of a person is meaningless if it is not backed by discipline. He said it was against this background that the cadet corps was established in the school Mr Osei-Asare pointed out that the upsurge of students' riots, drug abuse; improper dressings among the youth are all symbols of indiscipline, which society must fight.

Nana Anthony Knish, Assembly member for Seep-Buokrom Electoral Area said efforts were being made to form a Watch Committee in the area and called on the residents to support it.
