Robbery's bullet kills boy at Amakom

Kumasi, Jan. 19, GNA=96 A bullet fired by an armed robber during an armed robbery operation at 9310 Oclock" Pharmacy Shop at Amakom near the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, strayed and killed a teenage boy.

The boy whose name was not immediately known was watching a movie at a nearby electronic shop during the incident.

An eyewitness, Mr Kwame Michael, a private security man, who said he was at shop to purchase drugs, told the GNA that when he was about to leave the place at about 2100 hours robbers entered the shop. He said they ordered him and other customers and staff of the shop to lie down and surrender their mobile phones and other things they were carrying on them.

Mr Michael said the robbers took their phones and hit the mouth of a customer with the butt of the gun before collecting an unspecified amount of money from him.

The witness said the robbers after the operation fired warning shots indiscriminately to scare people.

Mr Michael said in the process, a stray bullet hit the neck of the boy who was watching a movie with other people in a nearby electronic shop, resulting in his death later at the hospital.

He said the robbers entered a golf saloon car and sped off towards the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology road. When the GNA contacted the Asokwa Police on the incident, personnel there confirmed the story and said the police were investigating the robbery.

An attendant at the shop who wanted to remain anonymous said there was not much money at the shop during the operation since they had gone to deposit money of the daily sales at the bank.
