Roll Back Malaria yielding results in Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma

Kuntanase (Ash), Sept 18, GNA - Recorded malaria cases in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District reduced from 68 percent in 2001 to 60 percent in the first half of this year, Mr Rubin Bedzrah, District Director of Health Services, has said.

Speaking at a workshop for 16 Community-Based Distributors of Family Planning Products, Community Based Disease Surveillance Groups and Chemical Sellers on Monday at Kuntanase; he also attributed the success to the Roll Back Malaria programme.

Mr Bedzrah said 72 community based disease surveillance groups and school health co-ordinators were trained while 800 impregnated mosquito nets were distributed and chemical sellers equipped to treat the disease under the programme.

He said 253 simple non-complex malaria cases were treated through the home management of fevers, adding that, the District Health Management Team (DHMT) also sprayed all suspected mosquito-breeding ponds throughout the district.
