Rotaract Ghana, a youth programme of the world’s first service club organization, Rotary International, has donated relief items worth GHc7, 000 to support the Accra flood victims.

The group donated the items which include bags of rice, boxes of cooking oil, buckets, detergents, toilet rolls, mosquito repellents, washing soaps and clothing to the Citi FM and Metro TV initiative launched recently to solicit for relief items to support persons affected by the June 3 floods.

More than 150 people lost their lives through the floods and a fire disaster on June 3, 2015, a day described as Black Wednesday for which a three-day national mourning was observed by Ghanaians.

Presenting the items to Citi FM, the Vice National Coordinator of Rotaract Ghana, Eric Botey said “the June 3 disaster was a sad event and as part of our community service responsibility we are making this donation to help relieve the plights of the affected victims”.

He, however, suggested that a long-term fund be set up to support disaster victims.

Receiving the items on behalf of Citi FM, Philip Kofi Ashon expressed his appreciation to Rotaract Ghana for the donation and added that the items will be distributed this Friday to the right victims.

Rotaract is a service, leadership and community service organization for young men and women between the ages 18–30.

The group focuses on the development of young adults as leaders in their communities and workplaces.
