Mr Benjamin Kpodo, the Member of Parliament for Ho Central, has appealed to residents of Fiakonya, a farming community in the Shai-Osudoku District, not to use their children as farm hands at the expense of their education.

Mr Kpodo, President of the Rotary Club of Achimota-Accra, said even though some parents found it cheaper to use their children as farm hands instead of adult labourers there was the need for them to see education as a priority and key to the development of the community.

He said this when the Rotary Club handed over a three-unit class room block it funded to the Shai-Osudoku District Assembly at Fiankonya.

The GH¢ 100,000 classroom block, which has has a library, a staff common room and a storeroom, is expected to serve more than 14 satellite communities in the area.

The facility would serve as the Junior High School block and would save pupils the long and wearisome treks to Dodowa and its environs for JHS education.

The MP said educating the children was the most effective way of shaping the human resources of the area for community and national development.

Mr Kpodo appealed to the pupils to make good use of the facility by studying hard and that construction of the facility formed part of Rotary Club’s aim to promote literacy in deprived communities.

Mr Emmanuel Aymin Odoi Lartey, District Chief Executive of Shai-Osudoku, in a speech read on his behalf, thanked the Club and said inadequate education infrastructure had been a major challenge for the Assembly.
