Tema, Sept 01, GNA -- Miss Gifty McCarthy, a 22-year-old JSS graduate of Mampong Akwapin Deaf and Dumb School, at the weekend received an electric sewing machine with accessorise valued at about 800,000 cedis and a cheque of 500,000 cedis.

Gifty, a deaf and dumb girl who was knocked down by a vehicle while crossing the road and was left in the streets of Ashaiman, was picked by Rotary Club of Tema.

Making the presentation at the President's Ball of the Rotary Club of Tema, Mr Yaw Sapon-Amoah, past president, said the club sponsored Gifty to go through formal education 10 years ago.

When she completed she decided to learn sewing at Ruck Vocational Institute at Community five and passed out this year.

Mr Sapon-Amoah said the club wants her to be on her own that is why she has been given the sewing machine and the money to start with. He said the club managed to send her to limb fitting centres in Accra and Nsawam where she has now got her limb fitted and can walk without clutches.
