Sekondi October 9, GNA- The Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly (SAEMA) has embarked on demolishing of billboards of companies and individuals who have failed to renew their permit for 2003.
Nana Yaw Boateng, the Metropolitan Engineer, who said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sekondi on Thursday, said some 29 billboards have already been pulled down.
He said it cost between 600,000 cedis and five million cedis to renew or obtain a permit to erect a billboard depending on the location in the metropolis.
Nana Boateng said the affected companies and individuals were given several reminders but failed to renew their permit and the Metropolitan Assembly had no option but to pull down their billboards because it considered the action of companies and individuals as intentional. He said the Metropolitan Assembly has also noted with concern, the haphazard manner small signboards were erected at major intersections and has decided to remove them.
Nana Boateng said the move is intended to beautify the metropolis and to maintain its award as the cleanest area in the country. 09 Oct 03
