Mr Ebenezer Kwaitoo, solicitor and Public Affairs Director of the Shama Ahanta East metropolitan Assembly (SAEMA) said on Monday that a 24-hour recovery and towing company would soon be contracted to maintain sanity and ensure proper parking in the metropolis.
He observed that though the assembly has clearly marked out portions of the roads as parking lots, some motorists do not use the facility but rather park at unauthorised places in the central business area of Takoradi.
Mr Kwaitoo told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that the exercise, scheduled to begin on November 11, this year, was meant to decongest the increasing traffic and enhance movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
He said the Takoradi market circle would be converted to a dual carriage road while the inner perimeter of the circle is turned into a parking lot.
He appealed to drivers, shop owners, travellers and the general public, to use only designated bus stops, parking zones and bus terminals, to reduce traffic congestion and enhance the beauty of the metropolis.
