SDA donates to institutions and widows

The National Women’s Ministries of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church has donated various items to two institutions and some widows to round up its week-long Ghana Union Conference (GUC) at Nyankpala, near Tamale.

Nyohini Children’s Home in Tamale received food items, detergents, used clothes and assorted drinks among others valued at GH?5000 while the SDA Hospital in Tamale also received GH?2600 to enable it purchase vacuum extractor equipment for its Gynaecology Department.

Eighty widows of the church were also presented with parcels containing various items.

The GUC, held once in every five years, was to take stock of past activities and plan the way forward.

Representatives from all the 10 regions of the country including delegates from other SDA missions across the world attended this year’s conference, which was under the theme: “Women for Christ: Let your light shine for the world to see”.

This year’s conference was special as it also marked 125 years of the existence of the SDA Church in the country.

Madam Margaret Osei, Director of Women’s Ministries of the GUC of the SDA Church, who presented the items to the beneficiaries, said it was the church’s way of showing compassion and dedication to the needy in the society.

Touched by the situation at the Nyohini Children’s Home, Madam Osei appealed to all adults to act responsibly and assume full responsibility for the consequence of indulging in reproductive activities and help prevent cases of child neglect in the society.

Madam Osei described the situation of the home, which is currently taking care of 26 children comprising of orphans and abandoned children who are between the ages of two weeks old to 17 years, as touching, adding that “if you are not ready to take care of a baby, do not go for the pregnancy”.

Mrs Alice Fordjour, Director of North Ghana Mission of the SDA Church, said it was the intension of the church to adopt the children’s home and support the children to attain their full potential.

Madam Augustina Quainoo, Supervisor of the Nyohini Children’s Home, said the home is facing financial challenges and this has affected its operations.

She thanked the SDA Church for the donation saying it would help to lessen the plight of the children.
