Kukurantumi (E/R), April 25, GNA - The St Paul's Technical School (SPATS) at Kukurantumi in the East Akyem District is to establish an Information Communication Technology (ICT) centre in collaboration with the Global Technology Academy (GTA) of the U.S. to refurbish computers for sale to schools in the Eastern Region.

Under a Memorandum of Understanding signed between them the GTA would initially send 300 computers to the school and equip the centre for the training in computer refurbishment, hardware technician and software management as from September next year.

Mr Stephen A. Godomey, the Principal of the School who announced this at the school's Speech and Prize-Giving Day on Saturday, said in February some staff and students from the GTA visited the school to network some computers donated to the school by the Ministry of Education and Sports.

He said the school required 150 million cedis to complete the structure for the centre to take off and appealed to the authorities and well-wishers to assist the school.

Mr Godomey said from the next academic year the school would open its doors to girls but the initial intake would be limited to girls from the communities around Kukurantumi until such time that facilities for girls would be expanded for more admission.

Mr Asamoah Duodu, the Director, Technical and Vocational Education of the Ghana Education Service (GES), said cabinet was considering a Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) Policy framework and it would enhance TVET in the country.

It would motivate TVET trainers, trainees and management personnel to improve their output in support of the country's drive for middle-manpower.

Rev Fr Vincent Owusu, Superior of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) in Ghana, a Catholic missionary organization which founded the school, presented keys to a 350-million-cedi bungalow it built for the Principal of the school to the Eastern Regional Director of Education, Mrs Ewurabena Ahwoi.

He also launched the Golden Jubilee of the school that takes off in 2007.
